MARTIN SMITH

Founder and Managing Partner at SmithDistrict

 

 

Martin served for over a dozen years as the full time Executive Director of the Barracks Row Main Street program on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. He has spent his career running and providing consulting services to commercial corridor management organizations throughout the mid-Atlantic region, having helped to form a half a dozen new Main Street programs in the District over the past ten years and consulting with countless others.

 

Martin's expertise covers the full spectrum of Main Street and nonprofit management, including past work on the Main Street Four Point Approach, organizational management, staffing, board development, small business technical assistance, historic facade improvement projects, event planning and monetization, fundraising development, grant writing, and even forensic accounting work and audit preparation after financial files have been lost or damaged.

 

Martin holds a BA from the George Washington University and a Master of City Planning degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds an AICP certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners through the American Planning Association, and was one of the first nine individuals nationwide to receive the Main Street America Revitalization Professional (MSARP) credential from the National Main Street Center. Martin has been a District of Columbia resident for nearly twenty five years - living in all four quadrants of the city at least once during that time - and currently resides in Dupont with his dog Sam.

MIKE PFISTER

Lead Designer and Muralist at SmithDistrict

 

 

Mike is an experienced graphic designer, painter, and muralist. In his role as Lead Designer with SmithDistrict, Mike plays a critical part in our placemaking efforts by helping clients with brand identity, marketing materials, wayfinding signage and placemaking murals. Creating the "instagrammable art" that localities crave is one of his core strengths, as is working with small businesses on interior and exterior graphics and signage. 

Mike holds a BA from Sheperdstown University, and has an extensive background in museum exhibit design. He currently resides in the charming small town of Frederick, MD with his two cats.
